The mining industry generates a significant amount of wastes; the most important of them are waste rocks and tailings. Storing these wastes on surface storing facilities often leads to environmental problems. Indeed, sulphurous discharges, once exposed to the air and in the presence of water, produce acid mine drainage (AMD). One way of managing these mining wastes is of preparing paste backfill, which is a mixture of mill tailings and/or waste rock, mixing water and a binding agent.
