Abstract

Two of Montreal's drinking water treatment plants (Atwater and Charles-J. Baillets) are using direct filtration. The raw water quality of both facilities is generally good. However, during the turbidity peak caused by the great winds in the fall and snow melt in the spring, the raw water quality is deteriorating and turbidity increases. To improve filter performance during peak periods, the two plants have integrated a coagulation process before the filtration step.
