Modification des matériaux naturels et des résidus industriels et application à la rétention des métaux du drainage minier

Mining industry is essential to the economy of the world. However, its socio-environmental impacts are significant. Thus, mining must deal with the need to maximize the efficiency while maintaining a clean and sustainable operation. In the region of Abitibi-Témiscamingue, mining is one of the main sectors of the economy. However, large amounts of mine waste with a real potential for contamination of surface and ground waters due, among other things, to the release of metals and metalloids, require appropriate management. Therefore, the treatment of mine effluent, prior to discharge into the environment, is a priority for the mining industry.

Résumé

L'industrie minière est essentielle à l'économie mondiale; cependant, ses impacts socio-environnementaux ne sont pas négligeables. Ainsi, les exploitations minières doivent composer avec la nécessité d'optimiser l'efficacité de production tout en maintenant une opération propre et durable. Dans la région de l'Abitibi-Témiscamingue, l'activité minière est l'un des principaux secteurs de l'économie. Toutefois, les grandes quantités de rejets miniers générés ont un réel potentiel de contamination des eaux de surface et souterraines à cause du relâchement des métaux et des métalloïdes et exigent une gestion appropriée. Le traitement des effluents miniers avant leur rejet dans l'environnement est donc une priorité pour l'industrie minière.
