Abstract
Nowadays, several road rehabilitation methods are implemented to maintain the road network which plays important roles, both socially and economically. The main methods are mechanical (mix of different soils and compaction) or chemical (hydraulic binders, spreading of chemicals). While it is true that these methods improve the pavement conditions, they do have limitations in terms of cost and impact on the environment. To avoid these limitations and to maintain good condition of pavements as an objective, new studies must focus on methods that are both effective and respectful of the environment. To this end, soil improvement by biocalcification has recently emerged to offer an alternative to conventional methods. If this method improves the mechanical behavior of soils, it also has some limitations as it implies the manipulation of bacteria, which is not usual on construction sites, and the extraction of ammonia as a byproduct. To face these limitations, a new process of calcification is proposed in this study.
