Abstract

Switched reluctance motors (SRMs) are widely employed in electrified transportations due to their inherent cost-effectiveness and fault-tolerant capabilities. The simple and less flexible configuration of the standard asymmetrical half-bridge (AHB) converter causes significant cost addition with achieving fault-tolerance in SRM drives. A comprehensive analysis of the implementation cost of AHB based fault-tolerant topologies is presented in this paper. Moreover, intensive evaluation on the fault-tolerant capability and performance limitations of each of the topologies are discussed thoroughly. Finally, the current research status and the future trend on fault-tolerance have been discussed, aiming to bring out promising solutions for fault-tolerance while achieving industrial cost targets.
