Ph.D. thesis (2019)
Abstract
ABSTRAT: Streambank erosion is an important form of channel adjustment in alluvial environments. It is a key process in fluvial dynamics that significantly influences the sediment load of rivers and controls their lateral evolution. Recently, 1D and 2D numerical flow models predict channel morphological responses more accurately. Most, however, are incapable to account for bank failure mechanisms or only implement ad hoc methods. In order to characterize the real dynamics of watercourses, this thesis proposes a new platform coupling flow hydraulics and bank geotechnical stability analysis in one dynamic and continuous simulation. The developed methodology, called upon advanced knowledge in hydraulics and geotechnics and their coupling in both the process-based understanding and calculation methods.
