Abstract
The aim of this study was to develop a condition assessment model for sewer and storm water pipelines. To integrate both hydraulic and structural aspects of degradation, a set of 15 specific influencing factors was identified and considered in this model. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method was used to express the relative importance of these factors. The proposed model was successfully tested to assess the current state of degradation of a representative sample of pipes selected from the sewer network of the city of Saint-Hyacinthe in Canada. A sensitivity analysis was performed to determine the effect of the relative importance between hydraulic and structural criteria on the state assessment of a given pipe. Results from this analysis indicate that the hydraulic criterion should be considered with the same importance as the structural criterion in the degradation assessment process. This model constitutes a useful tool for researchers and municipal engineers to improve their intervention plan by integrating the hydraulic criterion.
