Abstract

The simplified live load analysis method as presented in the current edition of the CSA S6 Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code has certain shortcomings with respect to its accuracy and the validity of some of its assumptions. Developed in the 1990s, the results of the parametric study that served to build the simplified method were based on a sample of 500 simply supported slab-on-girder bridges. Subsequently, this method has been the subject of several improvements over time, notably in the revision of the equations in the CSA S6-14 edition.
