Technical Report (2003)
Abstract
A large number of formulations have be en developed to describe the yielding condition, plastic potential, and failure state of engineering ma terials such as metal, concrete, ceramic, plastic, rock, soil, and backfill. In this report, the authors first recall some relatively common criteria used to describe yi elding and failure of porous material s. It is then shown that the main features of a large number of these criteria can be repres ented by a unique set of equations. The ensuing multiaxial criterion is applicable to a wide diversity of materials and loading states. A particularity of the proposed criterion, named MSDPu, is that it explicitly includes a porosity- dependency. The validity of this general criteri on is demonstrated using experimental results obtained on various types of materials.
