Abstract

The main goal of this work is to investigate the sensitivity of the dynamical behavior of the system ice-dam-reservoir to modeling assumptions of the ice cover. Several aspects are explored on 2D and 3D finite element models, namely the effect of the cracking state of the ice cover, the influence of the ice-structure interactions. To achieve this, two sets of 2D and 3D finite element models of typical gravity dams in Quebec are developed. The set of 2D models, based on the research works of Bouaanani (2002), permitted to investigate the influence of the assumptions choice about the ice cover cracking state and the ice-dam interactions, on the floor response spectra and the internal stress of the dam structure, extracted from the seismic analysis in the time domain.
