Abstract
While mobility is becoming more complex, either because of urban sprawl, splitting activities on the territory or the diversification of transport alternatives, it is important to understand the factors that influence mobility patterns and their impact on modal choice. Nevertheless, the typical patterns of transfer and modal choice treat the trips independently, regardless of the complete structure of the trip chain. Also, alternative and active modes are often overlooked. This research project aims to a better understanding of the interdependency between modal choice and the spatiotemporal structure of trip chains. That is to say, we want to demonstrate and measure the positive effects of integrating the concept of trip chain in mode choice analysis tools.
