Abstract
This proje t aims to study the seismi displa ement of reinfor ed re tangular on rete shear walls. Buildings with heights of 21 m, 42 m and 63 m, orresponding to 6, 12 and 18 storeys are onsidered. For ea h building, seismi resistan e to lateral for es is provided two shear walls. To take a ount of the seismi hazards of both Eastern and Western Canada, the buildings were designed for Montreal and Van ouver a ording to re ent editions of NBCC and CSA A23.3-04. Two ber-element software pa kages, OpenSees and Seismostru t, where used to perform the nonli- near time history analysis of the on rete shear walls subje ted to simulated and histori al ground motions. The ground motions used were s aled to mat h the target UHS at Montréal and Van ouver as pres ribed by the CNBC 2010. Nonlinear dynami analyses were mainly used to evaluate maximum and residual displa ements of the studied shear walls. The results of these analyses indi ate that the maximum displa ements obtained from OpenSees and Seismostru t were nearly equivalent. In all ases, the interstorey drift obtained did not ex eed the interstorey drift limits re ommended by CNBC2010. More variations were found in the predi ted residual displa ements by OpenSees and Seismostru t.
